Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Vandalia public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Police camera system replacement
The police division's old Panasonic body and in-car cameras are aging and unsupported, so the city is buying a new Axon system. It's already budgeted and partially covered by grants.
Conflicts of interest for council members serving other jurisdictions
Discussion touched on the recent vice mayor resignation over a conflict of interest with his employer, and whether the charter should more clearly bar conflicts when members hold roles in neighboring jurisdictions. Members also clarified that 'no other municipal office' limits were meant to cover city employment, not other boards.
Resident complaints regarding police interactions
A resident told council he feels harassed by police and raised concerns about fake records and his service dog being leashed; a councilmember publicly disputed his accusations.
Neighborhood traffic safety on Koch Avenue
A resident says drivers keep turning around in his cul-de-sac where kids ride bikes, and a blocked 'no outlet' sign is part of the problem. He wants new signage.
