Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Vandalia public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Hopeland Church playground variance
The church got approval for a 40x30-foot playground in its front yard on a corner lot, over one no vote. A fence idea was floated but rejected as defeating the playground's open, public purpose.
Parks & Recreation marketing position
A proposed marketing position would boost the department's social media presence, with questions about overlap with the communications manager's duties.
Parks & Recreation Volunteer Program
A new volunteer program lets residents help run the city's ever-growing lineup of free family events and park maintenance — background checks, training, and perks included.
Dissolution of the Golf Course Advisory Board
A 1977-era oversight board is dissolved now that the city runs the golf course directly. Remaining members keep a voice as non-voting advisors to the Parks and Recreation Board.
